Best Historical Southern Restaurants in Savannah

In Savannah, besides being famous for its' historical landmarks, it is closely associated with good food - especially Southern. The city's embraces both authentic methods of Southern cuisine, as well as new upscale techniques. There are so many restaurants & bars, but here I have compiled a list of restaurants that serve Southern food and are located in historical preserved houses!



1. Mrs Wilkes' Dining Room

Cuisine: Classic Southern

Why you can't miss it: Every morning at 11 am, huge lines forms by the door of the restaurant. There is one single dining room, with tables for 10 people, in which you will probably sit with strangers. The tables are crowded with platters of fried chicken, cornbread, sweet potato soufle, okra gumbo, corn muffins and much more. The menu changes daily so regulars can try different things every day. The price is fixed, and it's $30 a person and you can eat anything that its brought to the table. There are no reservations you stand in line, but get there at least an hour before they open for the first seating.

2. Churchill's

Cuisine: British with Southern Twist

Why you can't miss it: Churchill's Pub sits in the heart of Savannah Landmark Historic District. The eatery takes the image of old-fashioned cuisine with Southern infuse dishes. The space is unique, with three stories, including an open air terrace, an underground wine cellar and a street level bar. If you are looking to visit a classic restaurant for a good price, this is the place. For unbeatable cheap eat, visit during their daily happy hour.

3. Vic's on The River

Cuisine: Southern

Why you can't miss it: Vic's is located in a beautiful old cotton warehouse overlooking the Savannah River. The house is very well preserved, with entrances on both Bay and River Streets. The restaurant is pet friendly, where guests can dine under the centuries-old Live Oaks. The outdoor seating overlooks the Historic Factors Walk. Along with incredible ambience, the restaurant offers Southern food with a charm and sophisticated touch.


Favorite Dishes: Fried Green Tomatoes, Crab cakes & Tomato BLT



4. Alligator Soul

Cuisine: Southern

Why you can't miss it: Alligator Soul is a beautiful southern fine dining restaurant. They offer full bar, lounge (with a fireplace) and a dining room. Exotic protein fanatics will love the unique offerings at this upscale restaurant. While diners can enjoy fried alligator as an appetizer or a kangaroo burger for dinner, it’s the exotic specialty of the evening that will attract the truly adventurous carnivores of the world: deer and elk!

5. The Husk

Cuisine: Southern

Why you can't miss it: Husk Savannah is located at the heart of Savannah's Landmark Historic District. The restaurant is situated on what is known to be one of the most haunted blocks in the city. The house where the restaurant is located was built in 1898. The place has a vibrant history and plenty of ghosts stories. The cuisine upholds a strict southern philosophy, where they work exclusive with local farmers. Their menu changes weekly, with different specials every day.


Favorite Dishes: Whole Chicken, Lily Biscuits, Pimento Cheese Tartine.



6. Olde Pink House

Cuisine: Southern

Price: $$$

Address: 23 Abercorn St, Savannah, GA


Why you can't miss it: Located in the heart of the historic district, the Olde Pink House is Savannah's only 18th century mansion, and it is famous for its' pink color. There you can have a memorable dining experience featuring seafood caught daily in the local waters of Tybee. The restaurant is extremely popular, you need to make a reservation months prior to be able to sit down in one of their many rooms. The house is in perfect conditions, and you will be truly immersed with the food and the environment.


Favorite Dishes: Chef's fried chicken, BLT Sald, Fried Pork Chop.
